Thanks to Rose for hosting our February meeting and providing the block of the month. Everyone loved the Chinese chicken salad she served for lunch and she'll be posting the recipe for all to enjoy.

Show and Tell
I would like to start posting pictures of show-and-tell projects each month. Everyone brings such beautiful things to share but by the time I get home I am afraid I have forgotten half of them. Since I am usually late to the meetings, is there another member who would like to volunteer to take pictures?
This month Tresa had a gorgeous cherry blossom wall hanging in oriental fabrics. I would love to have a class on this quilt!
Debi's January class shared their Star wall hangings - it was fun to see how different each turned out.
Rose shared the pillow she made at a recent class. She will be teaching it at our March meeting. If you would like to make one, supplies needed are 1¼ yards material or, if you want two different fabric colors, you will need ⅝ yard each. If the fabric you pick needs to be matched please get ¼ yard more of eachpillow formtwo “Buttons to Cover” available at JoAnn Fabrics
thread.
Rose also made beautiful apron. The pattern is by Indygo Junction and is called Bon Appetit. It is available at their web site http://www.indygojunctioninc.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=271
I know I've forgotten some of the show-and-tell projects and I apologize to anyone I left out. (We really need pictures!)
Block of the Month
Thanks to Rose for a very pretty block for February.
Susan will moving to Ohio for her new job (Congratulations and best of luck Susan!) so the March 7th meeting will be at Marilyn's house. Cathie will provide the block of the month pattern. If you are still looking for a block pattern for your month McCall's has quite a few free 12" block patterns http://mccallsquilting.com/qb/ also http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/AlphaBlockList.html
Charity Quilts
This year we will again be making quilts for the Burn Center. The pattern we will be using is Snuggle Up http://quiltmaker.com/patterns/snuggle/ At the March meeting we will schedule some dates to get together and work on these.
Teton Patchworks Retreat
We got our 4th half-week volunteer for the August retreat. The 4 attending half-weeks are Cathie, Kristine, Chris and Marla. The other 8 attending the full week are Debi, Anna, Laurel, Tresa, Linda, Karolyn, Barbara, and Marilyn.

Debi's Class News
Ant-titude will be February 28th from 11:00-4:00, lunch will not be provided but Lance will run out and pick up sandwiches if anyone is interested.
I'm actually finishing this post after the class. Debi (on crutches with a broken toe) taught a terrific class as usual. Karolyn decided that needle-turned applique was never going to be on her list of fun things to do. Everyone has selected some really fun fabrics. It will be so much fun to see everyones finished quilt.
Bounty will be March 14th from 11:00-4:00. The class fee is due February 14th.
Wash Day has been rescheduled for May 9th from 11:00-4:00.
Nostalgia (the August class) has been cancelled.
See you at Marilyn's house on March 7th.

January 3, 2009 - Meeting Minutes
In our effort to lighten Debi's load, we've distributed the various duties associated with running the guild among the members. Cathie will distribute the minutes via the Blog each month so please send any additions or corrections to her.
This month's meeting was held at Debi's house and we thank her for the use of her home, the delicious ham & bean soup, and a really fun BOM pattern. In attendance were Linda, Rose, Debi, Cathie, Laurel, Marla, Marilyn and Barbara.
SECRET SISTERS - Secret Sister names were drawn at the December meeting. For those participating (Debi, Linda, Tresa, Chris, Anna, Laurel, Marla, Kristine & Marilyn) here are this year's guidelines:
1 - Gifts around $10 for Birthdays & Christmas
2 - Small mementos otherwise
3 - Mail or hand deliver
Debi will e-mail the updated spreadsheet with birthday, anniversary, hobbies and other important Secret Sister info.
OPPORTUNITY QUILT - Debi finished piecing the Opportunity Quilt - absolutely beautiful! - and passed it off to Cathie for the machine quilting. Cathie will have it ready for Linda to bind at the February meeting. Marilyn will complete a label on her amazing embroidery machine, also ready for Linda at the February meeting. Once completed, Laurel will take photos and Marla will create flyers and raffle tickets. Marilyn has agreed to contact venues (HMQS and QuiltFest) to see if we can set up a booth to display the quilt and sell raffle tickets. Anyone visiting a quilt shop or with quilt shop contacts should see if we can post a flyer and sell raffle tickets through their shop. Raffle tickets will sell for $1 each or 6 for $5. The drawing for the quilt will be November 1, 2009.
BOM - This year's Block of the Month will be hosted by a different guild member each month.
The host is responsible for providing pattern, instruction, and quilt-shop-quality fabric for each participant for that months block. Fabric colors are black and white with yellow accent fabric. Blocks will finish at 12" square (so the blocks will measure 12.5" x 12.5" before sewn into the quilt)
January - Debi
February - Rose
March - Susan
April - Marilyn
May - Laurel
June - Tresa
July - NO MEETING
August - Cathie
September - Linda
October - Anna
November - Marla
December - HOLIDAY DINNER, NO WORKING MEETING
January '10 - Kristine
My notes say 12 participants so I am missing someone - please let me know if you're missing!
2009 Teton Patchworks Retreat - The retreat is on for August 29 thru September 5, 2009. Right now there are 14 on the list to attend:
Marla, Cathie, & Kristine each attending for 1/2 week
Barbara, Anna, Tresa, Linda, Laurel, Debi, Marilyn, Chris & Karolyn
That is 1/2 person too many so one of the full-week people will need to volunteer to become a half-week person. Please let Debi know if you wouldn't mind just doing the 4 day session instead of the full week.
Debi will have the final cost per person at a future meeting. 50% will be due in May/June with the balance due in July.
If you haven't been to Teton Patchworks before, check out their web site http://tetonpatchworks.com/index.htmltp://tetonpatchworks.com/index.html
Barbara is off to California to spend time with her Mom. We'll miss her at upcoming meetings, but she'll be back for the occasional visit throughout the year.
If I've forgotten anything I apologize. Just pop me an e-mail and I'll put in an update. Check back each month for the meeting minutes, information on Debi's quilting classes, and updates on the 2009 Retreat.

October 2008 Meeting Minutes
We met at Laurel's house this month - lots of space! Thanks Laurel!
1. The project bags had not come in yet; however they did come in on Monday, the 6th and I picked them up in Heber on the 7th. I will deliver them to all who ordered on Thursday, the 9th! I am willing to sell some of my extras (2 large and 2 small) at my house on 1 Nov if you didn't get in on the order although I will be adding $1 to the cost of each bag to help cover some of my gas expenses. I also went to the quilt shop in Midway while I was in the area...small but very cute...with a gift shop too.
2. The opportunity quilt: I am willing to complete the top with fabrics from my scraps but will take any donations (fabric scraps - not money). Cathie says she will provide the batting and back and do the quilting!!! I will provide the binding and sew the binding on. If we decide what we want on the label, I will generate it on the computer (I have some label software). If someone else could pick up the tickets (I'm told you can get rolls of these at Zurchers), that would be great! I'm trying to have the top finished by the end of November 2008 so I can get it to Cathie. I'd like to have it ready to raffle by the end of January 2009. We'll also need to get some pictures of it printed. I want everyone that visits a Utah quilt shop to ask if they would be willing to sell tickets...or if we could show the quilt in their shop on a Saturday and sell tickets ourselves. I am also going to ask Utah Quilt Guild if we can hang it at Quilt Fest and sell tickets...and ask about displaying it in the lobby of the Sandy Convention Center during HMQS. If this is acceptable we will need volunteers to sit with the quilt on these days (the more, the better - we can take shifts!) We decided the raffle date would be 1 Dec 09 and we will ship to the winner! Proceeds will go towards our retreat!
3. Speaking of retreat... We decided we'd like to book a week for the retreat in 2009 - 29 Aug - 5 Sep. This has been done! Cathie will be taking to Lea and Jim about some possibly sharing the week...that way more can go and some may not be able to get that much time off work - or want to take it. We'll know more about that when Cathie comes back from her November trip up there!!! Wish I could go - but California calls! We also decided that we'd like them to provide dinner and we'd fend for ourselves for breakfast and lunch. They are working up the cost for this and I'll let you all know as soon as I hear. We'll have to work out what's fair for earning from the opportunity quilt on this...assuming we do sell tickets!!!
4. Plans for next year. I need feedback from everyone! This is what was discussed at our meeting:
a. Secret Sisters - it was voted that we do this again in 2009. If you don't want to participate, let me know (not everyone has to).
b. Block Exchange - we decided NOT to do a block exchange in 2009.
c. Block of the Month - we thought it would be fun to do a block of the month. Since I don't want to be stuck prepping for this every month and no one else volunteered...we decided it would be fun if everyone took a month. When it's your month you would provide the pattern and fabric for your block. We can do the block at the meeting...or take it home to complete it - your choice. If you don't make the meeting, but are participating you will still receive your pattern and fabric for the block. We will need to vote on fabric choices so the blocks will all go together in the end. If we have more participants than months, we can just roll over into next year or double up on some months. We might want to consider providing one extra for our next opportunity quilt (if we want to do this again)!!! I am willing to help anyone when it's their month with amount of fabric needed. Also, I am several books of just blocks - so your welcome to browse through these if you like.
d. Charity Quilts: This has fallen through the crack this year. I have a tub full of donated fabrics for this purpose. In 2009 we may want to have a few days where we get together to just work on charity quilts (3 or 4 times during the year). We can discuss this more in November.
5. Classes with Debi (me)!!! I worked up a schedule of 8 classes for 2009.
10 Jan 09 - Constellation - a 27" X 35" wallhanging that you can hang year round. I have 5 signed up so far (Tresa, Linda, Laurel, Chris, and Marla). I have 5 more slots. Payment is $25 - due the last week of Dec 08.
21 Feb 09 - "Ant"titude - a 50" X 56" quilt with some applique. I have 6 signed up so far (Tresa, Cathie, Laurel, Chris, Linda, and Marilyn). I have 4 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 7 Feb 09.
14 Mar 09 - Bounty - a 52" X 64" quilt that looks like overlapping squares. I have 6 signed up so far (Tresa, Linda, Chris, Cathie, Laurel, and Anna). I have 4 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 1 Mar 09.
18 Apr 09 - Quilter's Wash Day - a 15" X 20" wallhanging that would look great in a laundry room! This is paper piecing. I have 3 signed up for this class so far (Tresa, Cathie, and Marla). I have 7 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 4 Apr 09.
13 Jun 09 - Lady Louise Purse. I have 6 signed up so far (Tresa, Cathie, Chris, Laurel, Linda, and Marla). I have 4 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 31 May 09.
15 Aug 09 - Nostalgia - a 56" X 70" sampler quilt...shown in reproduction fabric from the '30's. It can be made more contemporary if you choose. In any case this makes a great baby quilt. I have only 1 signed up for this class so far (Linda). I have 9 more slots. This will take more than a single day (possibly 3), but I'm keeping my fee at $25 - due 1 Aug 09. If you'd like to take the class, but the date is bad...let me know...I might be able to move it into the end of July.
19 Sep 09 - Old St. Nick - Just in time to get ready for Christmas. A
26 1/2" X 30 1/2" wall hanging. I have 7 signed up so far (Tresa, Cathie, Chris, Linda, Laurel, Marilyn, and Marla). I have 3 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 6 Sep 09. Some requests that I teach this one at retreat...if all are going to be there and willing to give up one day for this, that may be an option.
14 Nov 09 - Contra Dance - a 54" X 68" quilt. This is a new method of puting a quilt on point - without set in triangles. I have 3 signed up so far (Tresa, Linda, and Cathie). I have 7 more slots. Payment is $25 - due 1 Nov 09.
Some classes may be taught at Laurel's house - making it more convenient for most. If so, Laurel's fee will be waived since she will be doing the set up and clean up. I need at least 7 in the class for this to be cost effective for me.
If you were in a class of mine and need help finishing your project, there is never any further charge for my help. Please let me know when you want to get together to do this. If you purchased a kit from me, but did not pay a class fee and need help with it, I will require the class fee be paid (to keep it fair for everyone).
6. Bingo - since there are still so many prizes left we will be playing Bingo at our meetings...3-5 games...except for December! Winners this month were Cathie, Marilyn, and Linda (hope I got that right since I didn't write them down)!!!
7. Secret Sisters - We opened our gifts from our secret sisters. All got great stuff...I can see why we want to do this again!!! From my perspective - it's just as much fun thinking up what to give as it is getting neat new stuff!!!
8. Shop Hop this month. The Holiday Shop Hop is 15-18 Oct. There are 4 of us going...Barbara, Linda, Laurel, and me. The shops start in Roy and go as far south as Payson...these are all different shops from the shop hop in June...so should be fun!!!
9. December's meeting is dinner at Corbin's in Layton - 4 Dec at 6:30 pm. Linda has secured reservations so we're all set! We'll guess our Secret Sister and pick new ones for next year. Otherwise it's just dinner and chatting!!!
10. Next meeting is at my house, 1 Nov 08, 10 am. I have a poker game that night...so we'll need to break up around 4:30! I'm thinking salad bar for lunch!!!
Monday, 4 Feb 2008
Marilyn, we cancelled the January meeting because of the snow. Our next meeting is Thursday, 7 Feb 08 at my house, usual time. It's not supposed to be snowing that day.
I've had a cold, but I'm over it. Just some coughing occasionally.
I have show and tell this time (finally). I've been going through my fabrics and putting kits together with the patterns I have bought and never done! I have fabric "holes" so I'm making a list to complete my kits. Then when I want to make a quilt, I just grab the bag and all the fabric is together! It sounds good in my head. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm trying to use some of the fabrics I've bought at past shop hops.
The Machine Show is in May this year instead of April. I'm ready to go!

Charity Quilts
Hello Everyone!
I contacted Intermountain Burn Center, and they are very excited to have us visit them. Our appointment is set up for Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 1 p.m. We'll have to decide at the next guild meeting where we are meeting and what time. We should probably allow approx 1 hour for drive time.
See you at guild on November 1st!

Meeting Minutes for 4 Oct 2007...
Attendance:
Barbara Conner
Debi French
Anna Adams
Tresa Thomas
Chris Vigil
Marilyn Fowers
Cathie Zimmerman
Susan Donati
Laurel Wolf
I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. If so, I assure you it wasn't intentional.
We all sewed on labels for the charity quilts. Cathie took 2 labels home as she has two more quilts at home. It looks like we will have 18 quilts to donate to the burn center! That is fabulous! Anna will be setting up a tour for a Saturday soon. She will let us all know when this will be.
We talked a little bit about our block exchange for December. I will help any of the new quilters that needs or wants it.
There was some mention about the block of the month patterns that I bring each month. This is just a pattern I share. It was never intended that we would make these blocks at the meeting. If you need help, though, I am already working with Tresa and Rose...I can help you too. Get with me for a convenient time!
I do recognize that we have several beginners in our group. For this reason, I would like to start some basic lessons at our meeting...perhaps the second hour so I don't miss any latecomers. I just watched a Fons and Porter show that gave me this idea. In November I will talk about and/or demonstrate squaring up your fabric, pressing (yardage and pieced units), figuring yardage (for back, binding, etc), simple math for getting the right size triangle for half square and quarter square triangles.
In December we will have our block exchange, a pot luck dinner, and I will talk about coping stips and some ideas for putting your blocks together into a quilt! I would appreciate anyone else's ideas about this as well. Remember to put your blocks in a baggie so you can collect yours as well. We can also talk about what we want to do in 2008! As many were interested in secret sisters, we will sign up for this in December!
While I'm thinking about 2008...I need to know if anyone besides Barbara is interested in going to Sisters, Oregon for their quilt show the second Saturday in July. This year they had about 1,000 quilts displayed all over their little town. It's a fun outing, but does require some advance planning as hotels fill up early. I will need to make reservations as soon as possible and need to know how many rooms we might need.
We also need to talk about a quilt retreat for 2008. Was the consensus that we'd just go back to Heber although there isn't much of a quilt store there anymore? I am leaning toward the Labor Day Weekend since Lance and I may be going to New England for the fall colors late September/early October.
Gossamer Petals People: Does anyone making this quilt want to get together for a sew day to do these blocks? It will have to be after the 23rd of this month if I am going to be there! Let me know via email if you're interested and I'll set something up. We can meet at my house...or if anyone else would like to host, I'm willing to travel! We can all bring snacks and make a fun day of it!
Marilyn will want to take orders for our guild shirts at the next meeting. She is going to embroider a needle pulling thread and write In Stitches Guild above or below it. You will need to tell her what color/size you want for your shirt. She hasn't given us a cost yet - November meeting!
If I've forgotten anything, please feel free to post your comments. I'm doing this from memory.
Well, that's all for now! I hope everyone enjoyed making the quilts for charity as much as I did.
By the way...Susan flew back to Sacramento this week end because her mother was hospitalized with what is presumed to be a heart attack. They are watching her closely, but she isn't out of the woods yet. There are plans to do an angiogram on the 7th.
Take care,
Debi
